OALGen skipped some entries in the offline address list '\Global Address List'. To see which entries are affected, event logging for the OAL Generator must be set to at least medium.
In relation to the above, I have set the level of logging to Medium and I tried it to 'High' also, using the command: Set-EventLogLevel -Identity "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" -Level Medium When I try to update the OAB using the Exchange Console, then I still get the same error in the event log. It is as if the setting is ignored even though running Get-EventLogLevel -Identity "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" shows that the log setting is at the level set in the command. Has anyone come across this issue and not been able to get more meaningful detail in the event log. I have run the command shell 'as administrator', and just launching it as my normal user account. I had verified that the command is setting the event log by using the -verbose parameter too [PS] C:\Windows\System32>Set-EventLogLevel -Identity "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" -Level Medium -verbose VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Beginning processing. VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Searching objects "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" of type "EventCategoryObject" under the root "$null". VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Previous operation that ran on: 'MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator'. VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Processing object "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator". VERBOSE: Setting Event Log level "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" to Level "Medium". VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Saving object "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" of type "EventCategoryObject" and state "Unchanged". VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Previous operation that ran on: 'MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator'. VERBOSE: Set-EventLogLevel : Ending processing. Any assistance in finding the offending email addresses would be most appreciated. Syncr0s

You might want to reboot the server at a convenient time to see if it kicks the logging.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi Ed, I'll try this, but is it known internally that the log setting does not always take effect till after a reboot? We don't have a window for reboots during the working week, so I'll have to consider this action for the weekend. Syncr0s

Hello, How about running the following command in “Exchange Management Shell”: Set-EventLogLevel "MSExchangeSA\OAL generator" -Level Expert Then update the OAB in EMC and see if we can see the details now. Thanks, Simon

It was just an idea. A reboot will often do amazing things.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Setting the level to Expert allowed the update process to put all the detail in the event log that I need to diagnose the addresses not being imported into it. Thanks for that Simon. I wonder why Medium or Highest levels did not work when they are meant to. I will leave that for another day. Syncr0s
